PTR & PTS margin calculator
Work backwards from the MRP printed on a pack to the price to retailer (PTR), the price to stockist (PTS) and the margin each level keeps — per strip and per box. Everything runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere.

How it works
The formulas behind PTR and PTS
Indian MRPs include GST, while trade invoices show the taxable value and GST separately. So the calculation removes GST first, then steps down the chain: retailer margin gives PTR, stockist margin gives PTS.
1. MRP excluding GST
MRP ex-GST = MRP ÷ (1 + GST%)The taxable value of one strip at retail.
2. Price to retailer (PTR)
PTR = MRP ex-GST × (1 − retailer margin%)Mark-up basis: PTR = MRP ex-GST ÷ (1 + retailer mark-up%).
3. Price to stockist (PTS)
PTS = PTR × (1 − stockist margin%)Mark-up basis: PTS = PTR ÷ (1 + stockist mark-up%).
4. Margin per strip and per box
Retailer = MRP ex-GST − PTR · Stockist = PTR − PTSPer box = per-strip figure × strips per box. GST is added on top of PTR / PTS on the invoice.
Worked example (hypothetical pack, not a FertiLogic price): MRP ₹100 per strip, GST 5%, retailer margin 20%, stockist margin 10%, 10 strips per box.
MRP ex-GST = 100 ÷ 1.05 = ₹95.24 → PTR = ₹95.24 × 0.80 =₹76.19 → PTS = ₹76.19 × 0.90 = ₹68.57.
Retailer keeps ₹19.05 per strip (₹190.48 per box); the stockist keeps ₹7.62 per strip (₹76.19 per box). On a mark-up basis the same percentages give a PTS of ₹72.15.
Using the numbers
What distributors and chemists use this for
- Checking a quote. Compare a supplier’s PTS against the PTS implied by the MRP and the margins you expect, before you place an order.
- Pricing to chemists. See how much room the retailer margin leaves at PTR for the chemists you supply.
- Planning a first order. Multiply PTS per box by the boxes you plan to stock to size your opening order — then run the franchise investment estimator.
- Reading the price list. The FertiLogic molecule price list (PDF) gives composition, pack and MRP for each brand; LETROLOGIC is listed at ₹150.00 per 5 tablets (inclusive of all taxes).
FAQ
PTR & PTS calculator — questions
Plain-language answers for distributors, stockists and pharmacists.
What is PTR in pharma?
PTR is the price to retailer — the rate at which a chemist buys a strip or pack from the stockist or distributor. It is usually worked out from the MRP: remove the GST included in the MRP, then deduct the retailer margin. GST is charged on top of PTR on the invoice.
What is PTS and how is it different from PTR?
PTS is the price to stockist — the rate at which the stockist or distributor buys from the company. It is worked out from the PTR by deducting the stockist margin. The gap between PTR and PTS is the stockist margin per unit; the gap between MRP (excluding GST) and PTR is the retailer margin.
Why does the calculator remove GST before applying margins?
MRP in India is printed inclusive of all taxes, while trade invoices show the taxable value and GST separately. Trade margins are therefore usually calculated on the price excluding GST. If your agreement calculates margins differently, enter numbers that reflect it — the results are an estimate.
Margin on selling price or mark-up on cost — which should I choose?
They give different prices for the same percentage. "Margin on selling price" deducts the percentage from the higher price (PTR = MRP ex-GST × (1 − margin)). "Mark-up on cost" divides by (1 + mark-up), which leaves a slightly higher purchase price. On a ₹100 MRP with 5% GST and 20% / 10%, the first gives a PTS of ₹68.57, the second ₹72.15. Use whichever basis your trade terms are written in.
Which GST rate should I use?
Use the rate shown against the product’s HSN code on your supplier invoice. GST rates on medicines are set by the GST Council and have been revised over time, and some medicines carry a different rate from others, so do not assume one rate for the whole range.
Are these FertiLogic’s actual partner rates?
No. The calculator only applies the percentages you enter to an MRP. FertiLogic shares partner rates for your district at quote stage. MRP is currently published for LETROLOGIC; for the other products, MRP and partner rates are shared on request.
Does this apply to price-controlled medicines?
For scheduled formulations under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, the NPPA notifies a ceiling price that limits the MRP. This calculator does not check price-control status or ceiling prices — confirm those separately before setting or accepting a price.
